The Rounds Family of Adams County, Mississippi began with two former enslaved Africans, Charles and Charity Rounds. They were a very industrious couple and were able to acquire Glen Aubin (Rounds Plantation) shortly after the end of the Civil War. Three generations of their descendants were raised on the Rounds Plantation and there is an active family cemetery on the property. The Rounds Family has now been in America for 7 generations.
ABOUT CHARLES AND CHARITY Charles Rounds was born in about 1811 in the Western African nation of Guinea. According to oral family history, he was taken to Virginia and then sold south at the notorious Forks of the Road slave market of Natchez, MS. Its not known exactly where he was enslaved at the time of this writing. Charity Rounds was born in Virginia and also sold south. She worked on the Laurel Hill Plantation owned by Dr. William Newton Mercer. Her name appears on a slave inventory of Dr. Mercer. In 1874, Charlie and Charity Rounds were able purchase the Rounds Plantation with the assistance of Wilmer Shields. In 1985, the Rounds Plantation was placed on the National Historic Register making a national landmark. To read more of the history, go here
